Morbi Bridge Collapse: Cable Rusted, Not Repaired, Tells SP To Court

The Sunday incident of the Morbi Bridge collapse has shocked the entire connection. There have been several speculations regarding the shocking incident. Recently, Morbi Deputy Superintendent of Police P A Zala and the investigative officer of the Morbi Bridge collapse case told a Local Court yesterday that the cable of the suspension bridge was rusted and not repaired. He also added that if it had been repaired, the incident would have not happened. Deepak Parekh, who is one of the managers of the Oreva Company responsible for the maintenance of the Morbi Bridge, told the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate M J Khan that 'it was the will of God (Bhagwan ni ichcha) that such an unfortunate event happened'"The bridge was on a cable, and no oiling or greasing of the cable was done. From where the cable broke, the cable was rusted. Had the cable been repaired, this incident would not have happened. No documentation of what works and how it was done has been maintained. The material procured/used, if its quality was checked, remains to be probed," said P A Zala. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Seeks Time-Bound Judicial Probe Into Gujarat Bridge Collapse

On Tuesday, newly-elected Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge sought a time-bound judicial enquiry into the Morbi Bridge collapse incident. Taking to Twitter, Kharge tweeted: "A time-bound judicial enquiry led by a sitting SC/HC Judge is the only recourse," "Accountability must be set for the loss of 135 lives in the Morbi Bridge collapse. The conduct of the municipality, Pvt firm and officials must be thoroughly investigated," He added that accountability must be set for the people who lost their lives in the Morbi Bridge collapse. Chennai Rains: Schools, Colleges Shut in Tamil Nadu; Death of Two Persons

On Tuesday night, Chennai witnessed heavy rains leading to the death of two persons. While a man was electrocuted, a woman died due to a wall collapse. After heavy rains, the Tamil Nadu government declared a rain holiday for schools and colleges in Chennai, Ranipet and Tiruvallur districts. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places over Chengalpettu, Tiruvallar, Kancheepuram, and Chennai districts. Due to heavy rain, the city also witnessed traffic congestion and slow movement of vehicles. PM Modi To Inaugurate 3024 New EWS Flats In Kalkaji, Delhi Today

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 3024 newly constructed EWS flats in Kalkaji, New Delhi. The flats have been built for rehabilitating slum dwellers under the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation. The program is slated for 4:30 pm today. The official statement from the PMO read: "In line with the vision of the Prime Minister to provide housing for all, in-situ slum rehabilitation in 376 Jhuggi Jhopri clusters is being undertaken by Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The objective of the rehabilitation project is to provide a better and healthy living environment to the residents of the Jhuggi Jhopri clusters, with proper amenities and facilities.
