Rajpath To Become Kartavya Path of India; Inauguration Ceremony Today

Delhi News Update

New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, approved the proposal to rename Rajpath and Central Vista Lawns to Kartavya path. Rajpath is a 2-km-long stretch that runs from the Netaji statue at India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.  The decision to rename the site was taken in a special meeting held on Wednesday, said Union Minister and NDMC member Meenakshi Lekhi. The Minister cited that Rajpath has now been renamed as the Kartavya Path of the country. The updates to the site's name will come into effect immediately.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi To Inaugurate Kartavya Path Today

Earlier, PM Narendra Modi hinted about the renaming of Rajpath to Kartavya Path. He said that since the road rules out all country affairs, so it must be renamed as the Kartavya Path of India. The renaming of the site came a day before the scheduled inauguration of the Central Vista site for public appearance.  As per the schedule, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the stretch on Thursday at around 6 pm. Due to the inauguration ceremony, all roads leading to the Central Vista site and the surrounding regions will remain shut between 6 pm and 9 pm today. The administration also issued a public notice to prepare the site for the inauguration ceremony. As per this, all offices and departments located in the New Delhi district will be closed after 4 pm. Also, officials working in central offices are asked to work from home on Thursday.

Inauguration Ceremony For a Newly Developed Central Avenue

PM Modi will inaugurate the revamped Central Vista avenue today. The avenue includes 16.5 km long granite walkways stretching parallel to Rajpath's sides. The canals present on the site have bridges built over them. These bridges connect walkways to different sites in the venue. According to infrastructural reports, a total of 16 bridges (8 over each of two canals) have been built over the canals. The lawns in Central avenue have been spruced up. Whereas, underpasses are built throughout the venue. These underpasses are developed with ramps so as to offer ease to differently able persons.  To prevent water logging of the lawns, the stretch includes storm water drains. In making the site look one of its own kind, officials left no stone unturned and put their full potential to ensure the space would glow like a sky. For this, 5 rows of light poles are installed along the walkway. The best thing to observe on the site is the application of modern engineering. These practices allowed engineers to lay all sorts of infrastructure in underground trenches.
