Russia-Ukraine War: Putin Vows To Go Ahead With The Invasion Unless Kyiv Surrenders

Russian President Vladimir Putin has vowed to go ahead with his plans of invading Ukraine unless Kyiv decides to surrender. Meanwhile, due to repeated ceasefire violations, the efforts to evacuate citizens from the city of Mariupol failed for the second time, and residents were left with no water or power supply. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that a barrage of Russian missiles has also destroyed Vinnytsia Airport. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that he will achieve his goals in Ukraine through negotiations or war. Both the countries are likely to hold the third negotiation talks on Monday. Ukraine is also expected to ask United Nations’ top court to issue an emergency ruling to stop Russia from invading Ukraine, arguing that Moscow’s justification is based on a faulty interpretation of genocide law.

Covid-Bulletin: India Logs 4,362 New Covid-19 Cases; Recovery Rate At 98.68%

According to the latest data released by the union health ministry, India has recorded 4,362 new covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The active caseload of the country currently stands at 54,118. Meanwhile, daily recoveries continue to outnumber daily covid-19 cases with registering 9,620 recoveries in the previous 24 hours. The total recoveries in the nation have reached 4,23,98,095. The daily and weekly positivity rates stand at 0.71% and 0.73%, respectively. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research, the country has conducted 77.34 crore covid-19 tests so far. On the vaccination front, India has administered 178.90 crore covid-19 vaccine doses so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

US And European Ban Risk On Russian Oil Imports Takes Oil Prices To An All-Time High

On Monday, the worldwide oil prices soared above $130, the highest since 2008 due to the risk of a US and European ban on Russian oil imports triggered tight supply issues. In the early hours of Monday, crude oil prices went up to over $130, surpassing the 2012 mark of over $128. Head of Commodity Research at Kotak Securities, Ravindra Rao, said: “Crude has set fresh highs amid continuing supply concerns. US and allies are considering restricting Russian energy exports while Iran’s nuclear deal got delayed due to new requests from Russia and China while Libya reported new supply disruptions. Crude oil may remain firm unless there are efforts to de-escalate tensions,” Apart from crude oil prices, aluminium rose 15%, nickel 19%, copper 8%, zinc 12% while wheat surged 60% and corn 15%. Ethan Harris, Chief Economist at Bank of America, told Reuters: “If the West cuts off most of Russia’s energy exports, it would be a major shock to global markets,”

Indian Envoy To Ramallah Mukul Arya Passes Away; Palestinian Authority Closes Monitoring The Cause

On Sunday, External Affairs Minister of India, S. Jaishankar, condoled the death of a young diplomat who had taken charge as India’s envoy. India’s representative at the Palestinian city of Ramallah, Mukul Arya, passed away who had taken charge last year. Mr S. Jaishankar said: “Deeply shocked to learn about the passing away of India’s Representative at Ramallah, Shri Mukul Arya. He was a bright and talented officer with so much before him. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones,” The Palestinian Embassy expressed astonishment at the sudden demise of Mukul Arya and said that the Palestinian authorities are investigating the matter. Mukul Arya was a 2008 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service and has previously served in Indian Missions in Afghanistan and Russia. The Press Release from the Palestinian Embassy read: “As soon as the painful news arrived, immediate instructions were issued from President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Dr Mohammad Shtayyeh, to all the security, police and public authorities, in addition to the Ministry of Health and Forensic Medicine, to immediately move to the place of residence of the Indian ambassador, to closely monitor the case of death,”
