Secunderabad Fire: Death Toll Rises To 8 After Massive Blaze Breaks Out

Late Monday, a massive fire engulfed an electric bike showroom and spread to a lodge above it in the Secunderabad area. As per police officials, at least 8 people have died in the incident. All the victims were staying at the lodge located above the showroom, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP North Zone) Deepti Chandana. "When police reached here, the showroom and the lodge were engulfed in thick smoke. First responders and firefighters were able to rescue a few persons using ladders. Some rescuers went up the stairs and brought down at least six persons who were unconscious. They had collapsed near the staircase due to some inhalation. The causes of the fire are yet to be ascertained. All the electric bikes in the showroom were gutted," said Deepti Chandana. Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Home Minister Md Mahmood Ali visited the site yesterday and have said that an inquiry has been initiated to find out the cause behind the fire. As per fire DG SK Jain, four of the deceased have been identified, including two from Chennai, one from Delhi and another from Vijayawada. A case has been registered against the owner of the building and the showroom owner at Gopalapuram Police Station under IPC Sections 304 and 324. "The lodge had 25 customers on four floors at the time of the fire accident, and they had only one exit. They were trapped inside. We have registered an FIR against Rajender Singh Bagga and his two sons. The investigation is on," said the SHO. Initial inquiries found that the fire started from the celler where 40 electric bikes were parked. It is being speculated that the bikes were kept on charging mode in the evening, possibly leading to the fire. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences to the families of the victims. Taking to Twitter, PMO India tweeted: "Saddened by the loss of lives due to a fire in Secunderabad, Telangana. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be paid to the next of kin of each deceased. Rs. 50,000 would be paid to the injured: PM @narendramodi,"  https://twitter.com/PMOIndia/status/1569516446073634817
