Shweta Singh: The Pioneer Of The Bulli Bai App?


Since yesterday, Shweta Singh has constantly been trending on Twitter. The story started after Mumbai Police detained an 18-year-old girl named Shweta Singh from Uttarakhand. She was arrested for being the prime suspect in the Bulli Bai deal case. The Bulli Bai App Controversy

The matter similar to the Sulli Deals app came into the limelight on 1st January after several unidentified groups on an app uploaded and misused photos of multiple Muslim women. The images were uploaded using GitHub, an open-source code repository. The Bulli Bai app controversy is very similar to the Sulli Deals app, which offered pictures of Muslim women as deals. The matter was reported in the news after Ismat Ira, a female journalist at 'The Wire', reported that her image is being offered in the Bulli Bai app. The Bulli Bai case has been handed over to the Delhi Police's Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit. The officials said that that they are trying to secure approval for a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty procedure so that they can obtain information about the controversial app from its abroad-based hosting platform. 

Shweta Singh - The Prime Suspect

After the Bulli Bai controversy stirred a massive outrage on the internet, Mumbai Police started searching for people linked to this case. After arresting accused Vishal Kumar from Bengaluru, the police arrested Shweta Singh. The 18-year-old girl is a student who is preparing to sit for the Engineering entrance examinations. Shweta Singh lost her father last year to covid, and her mother died due to cancer before that. The accused has an elder sister, a younger sister and a brother. While Shweta's elder sister is a commerce graduate, her younger sister and brother are school students.

Does Shweta Singh Have Any Social Media Presence?

Shweta was allegedly using a fake Twitter handle that goes by the name 'JattKhalsa007'. A lot of hate posts and objectionable comments and photos have been made from this said Twitter handle. 

The Nepal Connection

It has been reported that Shweta was actually working according to the instructions she received from her friend in Nepal. The investigation team has said that the primary information revealed by the accused hints at the involvement of a Nepal national identified as Giyou. Shweta was being instructed by the Nepal national regarding the activities to be carried out in the Bulli Bai app. Currently, the police is probing the role of Giyou and others in the case. 

Latest Update on Shweta Singh Bulli Bai Case

Shweta Singh was taken into custody from the Udham Singh Nagar district by Mumbai Police officials with a transit remand till 5th January. The accused will be brought to Mumbai and will likely appear before a Magistrate Court today.  https://youtu.be/5QGwDuFd29w
