It's not easy to make a biopic, and it's more challenging to impress everyone with one. People have witnessed so many biopics but have they liked all? So, it's not a cakewalk Now, it's Thalaivi's turn! Thalaivi is a narrative of late J. Jayalalithaa's life, which is the most exciting of all the Indian actors turned politicians. Thalaivi release date is 10th September 2021, directed by AL Vijay of Nanna fame.

Script

The makers chose to depict only ‘Actor-Politician-Chief Minister' in brief. Hence, Thalaivi cannot be considered a true biopic of Jaya. Jayalalithaa's entire life was marked by a great deal of diligence, emotion, determination, and courage that shaped her into the person she had become. Thalaivi Kangana Ranaut makes her film debut at a young age. MGR (Aravind Swamy) admires her sincerity and demeanor. After numerous films together, Jaya began gaining advantages by virtue of her intimacy with MGR. She started liking him. MGR isolates himself from Jaya to establish himself in State politics after leaving Karunanidhi's party. Jaya followed suit and joined MGR's clan. However, she had her ups and downs, struggles, and setbacks. Eventually, she became the indisputable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu with her status of demi-god.

Actors’ Performances

Kangana Ranaut was brilliant as Jayalalithaa. She enthralls the audience with her subtle changes from layer to layer. Arvind Swamy's performance is quite satisfactory. The seasoned actor is perfect for the role of MGR, and he completely dominates the screen along with Kangana.

Criticism

Jayalalithaa's film career isn't given much attention in Thalaivi. Jayalalithaa was also popular in Telugu movies. However, the Telugu fans would not be disappointed as there is no single reference to her Telugu connections. At the very least, a scene from her Telugu films should have been added in the Telugu version of the movie.

Conclusion

The central theme of Thalaivi is that a woman can taste success in male-dominated domains such as politics and filmmaking. This is where Jaya's chronology has an emotional impact. Thalaivi promises to pay her a proper tribute.
