Chennai Wins Fourth IPL Title Beat Kolkata in the Final to Complete Redemption


MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings have bagged their fourth title IPL 2021 by beating Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs. KKR openers matched their CSK counterpart in the first six overs of the game. Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer took Kolkata 59/0 in just 7 overs. Iyer also got his fourth 50 in the following over, but then he was dismissed by Shardul Thakur. The CSK bowler struck again and dismissed Nitish Rana for a golden duck. In the following over Josh Hazlewood took the wicket of Sunil Narine. Deepak Chahar was successful in taking the wicket of Shubman Gill on 51. Dinesh Karthik was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja on 9. Eventually, the entire squad was restricted to 165/9 in just 20 overs. Shardul Thakur picked 3 wickets. Ruturaj Gaikwad became the orange cap holder after taking Punjab Super Kings skipper KL Rahul. Gaikwad along with fellow opener Du Plessis gave Chennai a superb start. Later Robin Uthappa came in to give support his team. Both the players scored 50 runs before Uthappa was caught LBW by Sunil Narine. Du Plessis scored an excellent 86 off 59 balls but missed the orange cap by 2 runs. The outstanding batting performance powered the Chennai super kings 192-3 in 20 overs. This was undoubtedly a match-winning innings by the team in yellow.  

Ms. Dhoni's Cheeky Response Adds More Suspense to His IPL and CSK Future

M s Dhoni left things on a cliffhanger as his team lifted the fourth IPL trophy beating the Kolkata knight riders by 27 runs. An overjoyed Dhoni collected the IPL trophy however ended the tournament leaving everyone in suspense. During the post-match presentation ceremony, Dhoni was asked whether he plans to return to play the IPL the following year. CSK winning captain quoted that "it all depends on the BCCI. With two new teams coming in it is important to decide what is good for CSK". He also added "it's not just about me being there in the top four. It's more about building a strong team so that the franchise does not suffer. It is time to have a hard look at the team to shortlist individuals who can contribute for the upcoming 10 years". However, presenter Harsha Bhogle was able to get more definitive answers as Dhoni was about to leave the stage. When asked about the legacy Dhoni cheekily responded "well I still haven't left" assuring that the CSK could return for another year in IPL 2022.
