After his excellent performances in The Oval Test against England lately, former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh believes that all-rounder Shardul Thakur should be appointed India's regular No. 8. Thakur hit two successive half-centuries, which were significant in the game's context, and he also contributed with the ball, taking three wickets over two innings to complete an all-round effort. Harbhajan Singh was cited in the Times of India as stating, “I would want to see him bat at No. 8 for Team India. He can score runs on a continuous basis, especially in nations like Australia, England, New Zealand, and South Africa. That is where you can not play two spinners and someone has to bowl as your primary fast bowler and bat as your No. 5 to 7 batsman. Shardul is quite capable of doing that at No 8, where he can score runs and win games for the team." Shardul Thakur, according to Harbhajan, may be the answer to India's seam-bowling all-rounder problem, since Hardik Pandya, the prospective replacement has been out of action due to a back ailment. Harbhajan, who played alongside Thakur for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, said the all-rounder has been a promising player for both his Ranji and IPL teams.
