Hollywood Films That Failed To Leave An Impression Due To Poor Storyline!

A film's plot has a lot to do with defining its course among the audience base. Well, if we move further to look at the success story of modern films, we could find the storyline as one of the major pillars deciding the success of any film.  Based on strong movie scripts, thousands of movies have succeeded in creating lasting impression on viewers mind. Even some movies have a dedicated fan base for their entire franchise, such as Harry Potter, Transformers, Marvel Studio films, and many more.  However, there are also some movies that tried their level best but flopped at the box office. Through this post, we are going to discuss some Hollywood films failed to create any impact despite having a stellar cast and crew. So, let's get started…

Batman And Robbin (1997)

Batman and Robbin tops the list as the film is based on a widely popular comic book series under the same title. Batman comic series indeed has many memories surrounding our childhoods. However, the recreation of comic characters in the movie completely changed the real storyline. This was why the movie, Batman and Robbin, to this date, is counted among the biggest flop in Hollywood.

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull (2008)

The series Indiana Jones was a widely popular series of the 1980s. However, the release of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull washed away all those expectations as the induction of inexplicable storyline distorted the legacy of the original franchise and presented an illogical context to the audience.

The Last Airbender (2010)

In the acting world, directors have to use a lot of creativity. Without imagination, nothing is possible especially in the movie world. However, there are also some constraints to it. One of these involves realistic imagination. In Hollywood, there are many examples where directors went way beyond their imagination. In turn, majority of movies failed. One in this segment includes the 2010 movie- The Last Airbender. This movie's storyline has no element that could please audience.

Cars 2 (2011)

In its collection, Pixar has only a few movies that flopped at the box office and Cars 2 is among them. The film is a total diversion from all aspects that a viewer expects to watch from the Cars series. In fact, its storyline has nothing to entertain the audience (mainly children of the 10-14 age group). The reason for its failure lies in its complex storyline, that confused audience greatly.  Also read: Some Bollywood scenes sold to us as romance but are Problematic AF!

Prometheus (2012)

The concept of aliens and their existence is one of the most debated topics of all time. Although the topic seems so interesting, it is not what it looks like. Yes! Many movies of this genre failed to leave a good impression on audiences, and the 2012 film Prometheus is one of them. The reason for its failure lies in its distraction from the rest of its franchise.

Jurassic World (2015)

Undoubtedly, the Jurassic Park series is one of our all-season favourite films. However, the recent seasons of this franchise have come with severely disappointing reviews from viewers. The prime cause behind these lies in the deflection from the real storyline and the inclusion of unnecessary characters and story plots. In fact, 2015 released Jurassic World failed to leave a cultural impact on the audience, as it has no links with dinosaurs on which the entire sequel is based.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them (2016)

There could be hardly any person who has not heard of Harry Potter and its sequels. Influenced by the idea of J K Rowling, the directors of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them tried to present something special for their audiences. However, the movie failed to leave its impression as it was neither liked by adults nor by kids.

The Dark Tower (2017)

The 2017 film, The Dark Tower, is one of the best examples of a failed movie due to its storyline. The movie, in its picturesque form, tried to cover up Stephen King's book with the same title. However, the director ended up bringing nothing new to its audience. Instead, it only attracted viewers' criticism greatly because it distorted what people liked from the original book.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

The later seasons of the Star Wars saga attracted a lot of criticism from the audience base and has a dedicated hater list. It is because the movie harshly disappointed its audiences with its failed story character. Most of the critics said that the film ruined the message of the original trilogy, thus distorting the reputation of the Star Wars franchise.

Morbius (2022)

The 2022 film Morbius not only distracted in presenting a dedicated storyline to viewers but also became a favourite meme material for many social media users. Studio executives misinterpreted this online chatter as genuine fandom and re-released the movie in theatres. Due to mismanagement of all these factors, it got added into the list of movies that flopped in 2022.  These are some of the movies that flopped at the box office due to their poor storyline and other factors. It is true that directors take initiative to develop a story with a particular aim but sometimes they end up deviating from their aim.  Secondly, another issue that results in the failure of films is what we term as failed narration. Sometimes the director wants to convey something and we relate to something else.
