Veteran Star Asha Parekh To Be Bestowed With The Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2022


The entertainment industry never disappoints in honoring the talented individuals it has. Keeping alive the tradition to reward the best talent, the recent Bollywood news reveals that the Dada Saheb Phalke committee has decided to honour veteran actress Asha Parekh with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award 2022.  The award nominee was announced by the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur. In a press briefing held at his Hamirpur constituency in Himachal Pradesh, the minister said that the five-member committee -- comprising Asha Bhosle, Hema Malini, Poonam Dhillon, Udit Narayan and T S Nagabharana, decided on Asha Parekh’s name for the honour. The I&B minister said: “They (the committee) decided in the meeting that this time Asha Parekh Ji will be honoured with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, which will be presented during the National Film Awards ceremony. Who Is Asha Parekh?

Asha Parekh is a veteran actress who stepped into the world of cinema at an early age of 10 years. Following her entry, she has spent over five decades taking cinema into the hearts of Indian people. She started her career as a child artiste with the 1952 movie ‘Aasmaan’ and appeared in Bimal Roy’s ‘Baap Beti’ two years later. Asha Parekh, however, grabbed the lead role in Nasir Hussain’s 1959 movie ‘Dil Deke Dekho’. In the film, she starred opposite Shammi Kapoor. Followed by its success, she has  appeared in around 95 hit films, including Kati Patang, Teesri Manzil, Baharon Ke Sapne, Pyaar Ka Mausam and Caravan. Due to her versatile talent, she became the most influential and highly paid actress of her time.

Other Talents of Asha Parekh

Asha Parekh not only set her identity as one of the most talented actresses in the industry, but also developed her image as a popular director and producer. In the late 90s, she directed the acclaimed TV drama ‘Kora Kagaz’. The legendary actress has also served as the first woman chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification from 1998 to 2001. Asha Parekh came out with her autobiography, ‘The Hit Girl’, in 2017. For this, she took the assistance of popular film critic Khalid Mohamed.  For her contribution to the evolution of Indian cinema, the government of India had honoured Asha Parekh with the Padma Shri award in 1992.
