What is Myositis, the Disease Samantha Ruth Prabhu Has Been Diagnosed With?
Recently, actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu shared on her Instagram profile that she has been diagnosed with an autoimmune condition called Myositis. With that post, she wrote a long caption in which the term "This too shall pass" was mentioned specially.
The comment section of the post was deluged with fans wishing for a speedy recovery of the beloved actress. Furthermore, Samantha shared that she is recovering quickly, which is a good sign. Well, Myositis disease is not a commonly found illness so let’s understand its symptoms and treatment.
What Is Myositis?
As defined by National Health Service (NHS) UK, Myositis is the name of a group of abnormal conditions that weakens a person's muscles. The impact of this causes a person to face severe body aches. The experts studying the disease pattern suggest that the condition of the diagnosed patient worsens with time. It happens because the body's muscles become weak and its natural capacity to resist fades away with time.
Usually, clinical experts address Myositis to denote the illness. However, it is of three types, viz:
- Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM)
What causes Myositis?
According to NHS, the illness can be the outcome of any issue, including infection, injury or side effects of drugs. As the issue targets a person's immune system, it attacks the healthy tissues in the body. However, there are not adequate studies available to support these considerations, as in many cases, people diagnosed with Myositis have hinted towards multiple causes. Also, in some cases, the person has not shown any history of the suggested causes.

Some studies also suggest that the illness is the outcome of drug toxicity; virulent effects, including cold, flu, or HIV; and autoimmune disorders. So, more studies are required to identify the exact cause of illness.
What are the symptoms of Myositis disease?
Muscle weakness is one of the major symptoms. Well, it is also seen that many patients have not complained of the same pain, so pointing out the exact symptoms is a little difficult task. However, patients commonly complain about aching muscles, constant tiredness, difficulty in motion, difficulty in swallowing and depression.
Additionally, a person diagnosed with Myositis finds it difficult to do regular tasks like climbing stairs, lifting anything, walking, writing, and others.
Is Myositis Curable?
As per experts' recommendations, a combination of medication and therapies might help a person recover from the Myositis disease. Some of these involve physiotherapy, immunoglobulin therapy, treatment with steroids, DMARDs and others.
Currently, doctors are monitoring Samantha's condition regularly and treating her through a combination of medications and therapies. We hope and pray that the actress recovers quickly and makes a comeback on the silver screen.
