
Covid : Countries Come Together To Help India
With less to almost no supply of oxygen cylinders and an over-burdened healthcare system, covid-19 continues to choke India. The virus has already started preparing for a third wave, and so has the countries that are sending emergency assistance to the country. Here is the list of countries that have sent covid aid to India as daily numbers of covid cases continue to rise.
United States

With tons of oxygen cylinders and regulators, special US flights arrived in India on Friday. Several more emergency relief material is expected to arrive by the following week. The US has pledged to assist India in its fight against covid-19 by sending supplies worth more than $100 million. US president Joe Biden has assured that Washington will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with New Delhi. The final two flights of covid-19 aid to India is expected to arrive in India by Wednesday.

Taiwan’s foreign ministry said that the first batch consisting of 150 oxygen concentrators and 500 oxygen cylinders have already left for New Delhi on Sunday. The country is determined to help India to deal with the deadly second wave of novel coronavirus.
Ireland

Ireland also joined the list of countries helping India as the country sent 700 oxygen concentrators and 365 ventilators to help the doctors and healthcare workers provide timely assistance to the critical covid positive patients. The concentrators reached New Delhi on Friday.

The British government have already sent three shipments consisting of more than 400 oxygen cylinders and 40 ventilators.
Russia

The Russian Federation has sent oxygen concentrators, medicines and ventilators to India earlier this week. The Russian vaccine, Sputnik V’s first batch, is also expected to arrive soon in India and will be manufactured by Dr Reddy’s laboratory.
France

India has received eight oxygen generator plants and 28 tonnes of various medical equipment on 2nd May. Emmanuel Lenain, French ambassador to India, has called this aid a ‘gesture of solidarity’. He also mentioned that this is the largest package that France has ever provided to a country.

The gulf nation has sent covid aid to India, including 480 BiPAPs, 157 ventilators and other medical supplies. Today, a fresh consignment carrying 282 oxygen cylinders, 60 oxygen concentrators, ventilators and 7 ISO tankers have arrived from Kuwait.

As India is witnessing a devasting surge in covid-19 cases, Thailand has sent 15 oxygen concentrators on Saturday to address the country’s shortage of medical oxygen. The country has pledged to provide 100 oxygen cylinders to India.
Bahrain

Bahrain has sent 40 MT of liquid oxygen to India. INS TALWAR containing the liquid oxygen reached India on Friday.

Italy has sent an oxygen production plant and 20 ventilators to assist India to meet the growing demand for medical oxygen.
More covid-19 aid is expected to arrive in India from countries such as Bangladesh, which has pledged to assist India by sending 10, 000 vials of oral anti-viral, injectable anti-viral, 30,000 PPE kits, zinc, calcium and other essential tablets. Bhutan will supply 40 MT of liquid oxygen, Mauritius will provide 200 oxygen concentrators.
India is trying to procure Remdesivir drug from Egypt, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh and UAE. Norway will extend their support by contributing $2.4 million towards covid relief in India. According to Foreign secretary Harsh Shringla, over 40 countries globally have extended their support and assistance to India.
India on Tuesday, registered 357, 229 fresh covid-19 cases, thus crossing the 20 million mark. According to the Union health ministry’s dashboard, The country’s total coronavirus infection tally stands at 20, 282, 833.
