Christmas, New Year Gatherings Banned In Delhi Amid Omicron Scare
Amid rising cases of the Omicron variant in the national capital, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government has decided to ban all gatherings to celebrate Christmas and New Year. With Delhi recording 125 covid-19 cases, the highest in 6 months, the Delhi government also prohibited all kinds of social, political, sports, entertainment, cultural, religious and festival-related gatherings in the national capital. An order of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) said: “All district magistrates shall conduct an intensive survey of the entire area falling under their jurisdiction and identify those pockets, colonies markets, and crowded places which have the potential of becoming super-spreaders of Coronavirus and its Omicron variant,” The Delhi Police have been directed to be more stringent with people and ensure that social distancing norms are being followed. However, the Delhi Metro, cinemas, theatres, and multiplexes are allowed to run with 100% capacity. All restaurants and bars have been instructed to operate at 50% seating capacity. However, details regarding the legal limit for gatherings are yet to be defined.

Covid-Bulletin: India Records 7,495 New Covid-19 Cases; Total Omicron Cases At 236
According to the latest data released by the union health ministry, India has recorded 7,495 new covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The active caseload of the country currently stands at 78,291. With recording 6,960 recoveries in the previous 24 hours, total recoveries have reached to 3,42,08,926. The daily and weekly positivity rates currently stand at 0.62% and 0.59%, respectively. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research, the country has conducted 66.86 covid-19 tests so far. On the vaccination front, India has administered 139.70 crore covid-19 vaccine doses so far under the nationwide vaccination drive. Meanwhile, the union health ministry also released the statewise omicron cases in India. The total tally of Omicron cases currently stands at 236, with Maharashtra and Delhi recording the most number of Omicron cases.

PM Modi To Hold Covid Review Meeting Today Amid Rising Omicron Cases
Amid Omicron spread, Prime Minister will be conducting a covid review meeting today. So far, India has crossed the 200 mark and recorded 236 total Omicron cases. Recently, the central government also released containment and precautionary measures for states which included taking steps like night curfew, banning social gatherings, greater data analysis, and prompt containment action. While Omicron cases are rising in some states, the total covid-19 tally is hovering below the 8,000 mark. Currently, Delhi and Maharashtra are leading the Omicron tally, followed by Telangana (24), Karnataka (19), Rajasthan (18), Kerala (15) and Gujarat (14).
Varanasi: PM Modi To Inaugurate Several Developmental Projects Today
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be laying the foundation stone of 22 developmental projects in the Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi. According to the press release released by the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi will inaugurate projects including Banas Dairy Sankul, Biogas based electricity generation plant and lay the foundation of multiple urban development projects in Varanasi. PM Modi will also inaugurate other projects, including phase-1 of the Tourism Development Project of Shri Ravidas Ji Temple, the speed breeding facility at International Rice Research Institute, and the South Asia Regional Centre Varanasi.
