India Pays Tribute To Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee On His Death Anniversary

President, PM And Other Prominent Leaders Paid Tributes To The Country's Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee On His Death Anniversary

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Ministers on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, paid tributes to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his fourth death anniversary in New Delhi.   In the early hours on Tuesday, the leaders gathered at Sadaiv Atal in New Delhi, where they paid floral tributes to "the man of the masses". Atal Bihari Vajpayee served as the Prime Minister of India for three consecutive terms. He became popular as the "man of the masses" because of his farsighted perspective and appreciative nature toward his critics. Vajpayee Ji played a highly influential role in Indian politics from the time when India held its first general election. Due to his extraordinary oratory and farsighted approach toward the welfare of the masses, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru once proclaimed that Atal Bihari Vajpayee would become the prime minister of the country in the upcoming decades. Former PM Dr Manmohan Singh, too, admired Vajpayee Ji's versatile knowledge of politics and entitled him as "Bhishma Pitamah" of modern India. https://twitter.com/ani_digital/status/1559391495236378624

Amid Security Concerns On Indian Side, Chinese Spy Vessel Reached Hambantota Port In Sri Lanka

As reported by media agencies, a Chinese research vessel- widely known as a spy ship- reached Sri Lanka's Hambantota port early on Tuesday, August 16, 2022. The arrival of the naval vessel came amid security concerns raised by the Indian side.  The Sri Lankan government offered clearance to the vessel- Yuan Wang 5- to arrive at the Sri Lankan port over the weekend. According to reports, Yuan Wang-5 is a military-equipped naval vessel used by China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) to track satellites and ballistic missiles.  The naval vessel that reached the Sri Lankan port could accommodate 2,000 sailors aboard. Earlier, Sri Lanka's government refused to allow the vessel into the Hambantota port as the Indian side objected to its presence. However, Colombo re-issued a permission letter to allow the ship to take a halt in its administrative territory. https://twitter.com/AFP/status/1559440648096587776 Bilkis Bano Gang-Rape Case: All Convicts Walk Out Of Jail All 11 life imprisonment convicts in the 2002 Bilkis Bano gang-rape case walked out of the Godhra sub-jail under the Gujarat government's remission policy. Mamata Backs Anubrata And Calls For Protest Over ED, CBI Excesses

Days after the arrest of Trinamool Congress (TMC) 's Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal in the cattle-smuggling case, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee broke her silence on Sunday. The Chief Minister stated that she stands with the party strongman and announced to "start a movement" against alleged excesses of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). While addressing a gathering on Independence Day in South Kolkata, Ms Banerjee said, "What has Kesto (Anubrata Mondal) done? Even as he was locked in his house, we still won the assembly elections last year. The ED and CBI ransacked his house at midnight. If you arrest one Kesto, we will create thousands of them. We will hit the streets from August 16 on the 'Khela Hobe Divas'. There will be 'Khela hobe', again (Let the play start, again)". Earlier, it was assumed that CM Banerjee would not stand by Anubrata as she did in Partha Chatterjee's case, where the ED recovered more than Rs 50 crore in cash from his close associate's residence. However, the CM's stand in the Anubrata case shocked everyone, including TMC workers.  It is noteworthy that Anubrata Mondal is a close-aide of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and his arrest by the central agency has fueled an entirely new debate on the involvement of the party's leadership in various scams. https://twitter.com/IndianExpress/status/1557730262058147842
