This sports survival drama is a must watch for you if you were waiting for Abhishek Bachhan and Saiyami Kher on the big screen. Both of them have given their best performance.   

R Balki has directed this sports survival movie. Apart from direction, he has written the story of this drama. In the story writing, Rishi Virmani and Rahul Sengupta have supported R Balki, the director of the movie, Ghoomer. Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher are in the leading roles. And other cast members of this movie are Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Angad Bedi, Nasir Khan, Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, Guneet Sandhu, and Ivanka Das.    

The movie, Ghoomer, will run for two hours and fifteen minutes.  

Anina Dixit (Saiyami Kher) dreams about her debut as a batsman in international cricket. Before her dream comes true, she meets with an accident in which she loses right hand. The accident makes her lose her dream of playing cricket and desire to live. She gets back in cricket after meeting with and having training from a former cricketer and alcoholic, Paddy (Abhishek Bachchan)

In the movie, Ghoomer, the director (R Balki) gives more importance to magic in comparison with logic. This film has an inspiration from Karoly     Takacs’ story. Karoly is the late Hungarian right handed shooter who lost his left hand due to an injury and won two gold medals in the Olympics. Leaving a few ones like Jayprad Desai’s Kaun Pravin Tambe (2022), most of the Indian sports movies have a lack of formulaic and rich themes. Team selection process, politics within the team, and bad economic condition of an athlete have been prime topics in Indian sports movies. Through this movie, R Balki is going to narrate a powerful story that depicts the comeback of a human in cricket even after losing one hand.

Shabana Azmi with her youthful spirit plays the role of a cricket expert and guides Anina in playing cricket. She is a self-proclaimed fan of Roger Federer. With her knowledge about ICC cricket rules, cricket techniques, regulations, and health drinks for athletes, she does well in her role. Some of her actions make you think about why females have not succeeded as cricket experts and they have limited themselves to cricket anchors.   

Paddy or Padam Singh Sodhi (Abishek Bachchan) has a cruel and toxic coaching approach. But the approach changes as the movie moves ahead. As a loner, Paddy has some changes in his life after his strange encounter with Anina who has lost her right hand. Paddy offers training to her so that she could come back into cricket and have a debut in international cricket. Through his training, Paddy makes Anina reenter the Indian cricket team as a left handed bowler or one handed bowler. In the movie, Paddy reminds himself, “winners ko kaisay lagta hai, yeh ek baar mehsoos karna hai ''. Watching the film will help you know how Anina transforms her weakness into strength under paddy’s guidance. Through his different characters, Abhishek has bowled the best in his career till now through this movie. The self reflections that come in various scenes of the movie make it more real to his acting career.

Saiyami Kher was a cricketer before turning to acting. She has done her best in her role that is highly challenging. Bowling with one hand, especially through the left hand, is not an easy task. Her stance, physique, and bowling style are highly praiseable. Her shows with her cricket coach (Paddy) and boyfriend Jeet (Angad Bedi) are common scenes moving with the movie. Shabana Azmi’s presence with timing makes a treat for you while watching this movie.   

The movie, Ghoomer, is best in its performance. And it lies in R Balki, Rishi Virmani, and Rahul Sengupta who wrote the story and screenplay. Their writing can make your eyes have water in them, especially when paddy says to Rasika about Ania, Woh leftie nahi left hi hai.

When the movie, Ghoomer, moves towards its end, it struggles a bit. It is crowd pleasing and predictable. While watching it, you have numerous questions in your mind about the Indian Cricket Team. Can the national cricket team give such a coveted spot to a one handed spin bowler is one of them.

However, you can get the full movie price while watching it in a multiplex close to you. It will give everything that you want in terms of story, screenplay, cast, performance, etc. After watching the movie, you will have a sense of fulfillment, as it is a completely family entertainer.
