Real Reason Why BCCI Needs More Time On The T20 World Cup Decision

The BCCI is looking to take a call on the T20 World Cup soon, as it decides whether to conduct it in India or not. The T20 World Cup will be happening at the end of the year, with the venue originally decided to be in India. Last year's edition of the tournament was cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic. However, this time the ICC is determined to go through with the competition. The IPL 2021 tournament had to be suspended due to the increase in the number of cases in the country. On the other hand, the second half of the tournament will be held in the UAE in September. With that being said, the ICC was reconsidering the location of the upcoming international competition.

What Is The Latest Update On The T20 World Cup Coming From The BCCI?

There two main reasons that the BCCI is looking to delay the decision is the unpredictable nature of the pandemic. Though the damage done has been huge so far, the number of cases has slowly started going down due to the lockdowns. On the other hand, the BCCI wants the permissions and clearances needed to host an international tournament from the government.
At the SGM, it was confirmed that the BCCI would pay around 46% of the total revenue to the Indian government for hosting the T20 World Cup. The total amount is said to be approximately INR 900 crore ($125m approximately). This makes the revenue a huge sum and losing it a major issue as well, not just for the Board Of Control For Cricket In India but for the ICC as well.
The second reason is the issue of travel and safety that needs to be addressed. The players of different countries will have to move within the country with utmost safety. This will be the responsibility of the BCCI once again. Further, if any medical assistance is needed, it has to be assured as well.
A routine inspection from the ICC was cancelled in April already. Keeping these in mind, the final decision has now been delayed. The verdict could be out soon, with the UAE being a backup option. That is, in case India is not ready to host the tournament.
