PM Modi In Manipur: “We Go By The Mantra Act East”

On 4th January, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Manipur ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Manipur. While addressing a public rally in Imphal, PM Modi stressed on the fact that there has been a major shift in how the North Eastern part of India is looked upon. He also added that the North Eastern part of India will soon become the driver of India’s growth story.

Addressing the mass rally, Prime Minister Modi said: “Those who ran previous governments in Delhi neglected Manipur, resulting in alienation of people. After becoming the Prime Minister, I brought New Delhi to the doorsteps of Manipur and the northeast. The entire region will become major drivers of India’s growth,”

PM Modi also spoke about how his government has brought relief to Manipur and will continue to do so. PM said: “Sixty percent of households in Manipur have got access to clean tap water through the Har Ghar Jal programme, reflecting the commitment of the ‘double-engine’ government.” “1,80,000 houses have been sanctioned under the PM Awas Yojana, 4,25,000 people have benefitted under the Ayushman Bharat Mission, and 1.5 lakh free gas and 1.3 lakh free electricity connections have been provided.” the PM added.

PM Modi laid the foundations stones of 9 projects worth INR 2950 crore including:

  • 5 National Highway projects.
  • Manipur Institute of Performing Arts to be built at a cost of INR 240 crore.
  • Centre for Invention, Innovation, Incubation and Training to be built at a cost of INR 200 crore.
  • Government Residential Quarters.
  • State of The Art Cancer Hospital worth 160 crore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also inaugurated 13 projects worth INR 1850 crore including:

  • Steel Bridge over the Barak River on NH-37 which will help in decongesting traffic between Silchar and Imphal. The bridge will be built at a cost of around INR 75 crore.
  • 2387 mobile towers worth INR 1100 crore.
  • Water Transmission System of Thoubal Multi-Purpose Project which will supply drinking water to people of Imphal and the project will be wroth INR 280 crore.
  • Water Supply Scheme Project of INR 65 crore for supplying safe drinking water to ten habitations of Tamenglong district.
  • Augmentation of Senapati District Headquarter Water Supply Scheme worth INR 51 crore for providing regular water supply to residents of Tamenglong district.
  • 200 Bedded Covid Hospital at Kiyamgei set up in collaboration with DRDO.
  • Three projects under Imphal Smart City Mission which includes the Integrated Command and Control Centre, Development of Western Riverfront on Imphal River (Phase 1) and Development of Mall Road at Thangal Bazar (Phase 1). The projects will be built at a cost of INR 170 crore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched these projects to cater to the needs of diverse sectors including drinking water supply, health, information technology, skill development, urban development, road infrastructure, art and culture among others.
