The Election Commission Of India May Release The Final Voters’ List Today!
The updated voters’ list for the upcoming assembly elections might be released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) today. The ECI, during his short visit to Lucknow, had clarified that the updated voters’ list would be released by January 5, 2022. The announcement of election dates would be announced, followed by the electoral list release.
In the meantime, the Chief Electoral Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh, Ajay Kumar Shukla, will also address a press conference at Lucknow’s Election Commission Office for reviewing the voters’ list.
In addition to the release of voters’ lists, the CEO will share the guidelines for the conduction of elections. According to sources, the dates of assembly elections can be announced soon after the release of voters’ lists. Once the dates are announced, the model code of conduct will be implemented across the poll-bound states.
Earlier, all political parties unanimously proposed the conduction of elections on time, ensuring all the appropriate Covid-19 protocols. This proposal was sent, followed by the Allahabad High Court suggestion to withhold the Assembly elections due to a possible Omicron variant-led third wave.
During the visit, CEC had emphasized on ramping up the vaccination drive in poll-bound states. As per the sources, the number of polling booths in the upcoming elections would be doubled, and the polling hours are likely to be extended by an hour.
