Has The ‘Khan’ Surname Got Anything To Do With Aryan Khan’s Arrest?

In a country like India, where people of several communities and backgrounds stay together, the debate between majority vs minority is bound to happen. Right from when India got its independence, the Hindu-Muslim equation has been the most talked about. Recently, after Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan’s arrest by the NCB in connection to a drug bust case has again raised the questions on the Hindu-Muslim equation and started the debate about being a ‘Khan’ or, more so, a Muslim living in a Hindu majority country.

SRK’s Stance On Being An Indian Muslim

Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan has also done a film titled ‘My Name Is Khan’ where he was labelled as a terrorist for just being a ‘Khan’. Though the film has nothing to do with Aryan Khan’s arrest directly, the film’s concept can be acutely connected to Aryan Khan’s arrest in quite an ironic way. Shah Rukh Khan as an actor is supremely talented. When it comes to voicing his religious opinion, he has always hinted about being a person who equally respects all religions and sometimes has to be conscious to bear the crescent for being the most popular Indian Muslim in the country. In a 2013 special edition of the Outlook Magazine, which was done in association with the New York Times, Shah Rukh Khan said: “We create little image boxes of our own. One such box has begun to draw its lid tighter and tighter… It is the box that contains an image of my religion in millions of minds. I encounter the tightening of definition every time moderation is required to be publicly expressed by the Muslim community in my country.”

Though none of the family members of Aryan Khan, including his father Shah Rukh Khan, has released any statement or any video regarding the arrest, one of his statements that he gave in the 2013 Outlook essay seems to not make sense with the latest developments in Aryan Khan’s life. In the Outlook essay, SRK said: “I gave my son and daughter names that could pass for generic (pan-India and pan-religious) ones: Aryan and Suhana… I imagine this will prevent my offspring from receiving unwarranted eviction orders and random fatwas in the future,” Well, the imagination of SRK surely did not go down as he expected.

Since the Mumbai drug bust case is still in the court, Aryan Khan has been denied bail almost 3 times now and is spending his days at the Arthur Road jail, while SRK and Gauri are counting days till Aryan returns to Mannat. Meanwhile, counselling sessions are being done by the Narcotics Control Bureau’s high profile Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede, who has revealed that during the sessions, Aryan has promised to be a good citizen, serve the country, avoid doing wrongdoing and also help the deprived and poor people after he is bailed out.

Is Aryan Khan Being Framed For Being A Khan?

One can’t really point out and say that the surname has got anything to do with Aryan Khan’s arrest as similar developments took place during Rhea Chakraborty’s alleged involvement in Sushant Singh Rajput drug case. However, on the other side of the spectrum stands the Delhi Police turning a blind eye towards the 2020 Delhi riots case during the Citizenship Amendment Act protest that was also condemned by a court in Delhi, which raises too many questions on the surname, particularly.

What Stands Next?

Many opposition ministers have hinted at the involvement of BJP leaders in the Aryan Khan arrest case; still, one can’t ignore the WhatsApp chats of Aryan shown by the NCB to the court, speculating the regular consumption of drugs by SRK’s son. Meanwhile, Aryan Khan will remain in jail till Wednesday, i.e. 20th October. Stay tuned for the latest updates on the Aryan Khan NCB custody case
