Shweta Tiwari Controversy: Actor Issues Apology For Her ‘Bra’ Remark

TV Personality Shweta Tiwari landed herself in trouble after her remark on God. An official said that the Bhopal police have registered a case against the actor for allegedly hurting religious sentiments with her remarks. However, Shweta Tiwari issued an apology for her remarks and emphasised that her statement was taken out of context and has been misconstrued. 

The controversy started after Shweta Tiwari, at a press conference, said: “Meri bra ka size bhagwan le rahe hain,” (God is taking the size of my bra). The press conference took place in Madhya Pradesh for her upcoming web series titled ‘Show Stopper’, which also features Rohit Roy, Digangana Suryavanshi, Sourabh Raaj Jain, among others. A case was registered after Madhya Pradesh home minister Narrotam Mishra directed the Bhopal Police to investigate her remark and submit a report. 

The video of Shweta Tiwari making the remark went viral on social media. Her co-actors were also present when she made the remark while interacting with media personalities.

The official of Shayamla Hills Police Station said: “A case was registered against Shweta Tiwari today under IPC section 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs),”

“The offence is non-bailable, but as it attracts imprisonment of less than seven years, no arrest can be made as per the Supreme Court’s directive issued earlier,” added the official. 

Shweta Tiwari’s apology statement read: “It has come to my notice that a certain statement of mine referring to a colleague’s previous role has been taken out of context and has been misconstrued. When put in context, one will understand that the statement in reference to ‘Bhagwan’ was in context with Sourabh Raj Jain’s popular role of a deity. People associate character names to actors, and hence, I used that as an example during my conversation with media. However, it has been completely misconstrued, which is saddening to see. As someone who has been a staunch believer of ‘Bhagwan’ myself, there is no way that I would intentionally or unintentionally say or do any such thing that would hurt sentiments by and large.”

“I have, however, come to understand that when taken out of context, it has unintentionally hurt feelings of people. Please be assured that it has never been my intention to hurt anyone with my words or actions. Hence, I would like to humbly apologise for the hurt that the statement has unintentionally caused to a lot of people.” added the statement. 

Coming in support of the actor, actor-RJ host Salil Acharya said that Shweta’s comment were taken out of context. While giving a statement to an entertainment portal, Acharya said: “I was on stage with Shweta when this happened. I was asking a question to actor Sourabh Raaj Jain, who plays a bra fitter in the web series. I had asked him that for a person who has played mythological and godly roles in the past, how was it playing something so different. In a funny way, Shweta said that now we are making God do this. When she said God, she meant Sourabh because he is known for his mythological roles. Her statement has been taken out of context, and I really would like to clear the air.”
