The Bollywood Journey Of ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ AKA Kriti Sanon
Bollywood celebrity Kriti Sanon recently turned 31 and also had a recent release, ‘Mimi’, directed by Dinesh Vijan. Kriti is an outsider in Bollywood who has attained fame on the basis of her acting talent and managed to make her space in the Hindi film industry. Kriti has emerged as one of the leading female actors in Bollywood. Kriti Sanon was born in New Delhi to Rahul Sanon, a chartered accountant and Geeta Sanon, a Physics professor at the University of Delhi. She also has a younger sister named Nupur Sanon, who marked her debut with the hit music video ‘Filhaal’ along with actor Akshay Kumar.
Kriti Sanon was a student of Delhi Public School, RK Puram and pursued her bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology.
“When you don’t come from a film family, you don’t get your second film before your first film releases. Which happens when you come from a film family, many times,”
Before stepping into Bollywood, Sanon debuted into the Telegu Film Industry in 2014 with Sukumar’s psychological thriller Nenokkadine, which received mixed responses from critics. Later, in the same year, Kriti entered the Hindi film industry in Sabbir Khan directed Heropanti opposite Tiger Shroff. The film received a good response and went on to become a sleeper hit, earning Rs 726 million worldwide. Kriti Sanon also bagged the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for Heropanti.
“Even when I did my first film, there was a lot of restlessness before release. I was in a new city, had done B-tech and was coming to a city where I didn’t know anybody,”
After giving a decent hit, Kriti did the multi-starrer film Dilwale along with Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Varun Dhawan. The film was a box-office hit and went on to become one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. However, the pressure of proving herself increased after Dilwale’s release.
“Post ‘Dilwale’, after a point, I was craving to act, but I was not getting that space. I am very ambitious as a person; I am very hungry as an actor.”
When Kriti Sanon was not getting any projects, Dinesh Vijan’s Raabta came as an opportunity for Kriti to stay in the game. Though the film fell flat at the box office, Kriti and Sushant Singh Rajput’s chemistry was loved by all the fans. The immense success in Kriti’s life came with Bareilly Ki Barfi, where audiences could actually feel what the actor is capable of. The film also featured talented actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Ayushmann Khurrana and Rajkumar Rao.
“There are a lot of actors, not from film families, who’re doing extremely well. It feels good. You feel proud because no matter where you come from, few people believed in you and supported you,”
Well, Kriti Sanon carried her Bareilly Ki Barfi charm to Luka Chuppi, another romantic comedy film opposite Kartik Aaryan. Kriti Sanon then did films like Housefull 4, Panipat and Arjun Patiala.
Her recent release Mimi, which is based on surrogacy, has received a decent response from audiences and critics. Some upcoming projects of Kriti Sanon include Hum Do Humaare Do, Bachchan Pandey, Bhediya and Adipurush.
