Bihar Bandh: Students’ Organisations Protest Against RRB-NTPC Exam 2021
On Friday, student organisations blocked roads and burned tyres to support Bihar Bandh, called by student-backed groups and political parties. The Students have organised the protest over alleged discrepancies in railway recruitment examinations. The Left-affiliated All India Students Association (AISA) have also called for the bandh to protest against the alleged irregularities in the Railway Recruitment Board’s Non-Technical Popular Categories (RRB-NTPC) EXAM, 2021. On Wednesday, mostly railway job aspirants blocked rail traffic between Gaya and Jehanabad and also stopped trains, including Rajendra Nagar-New Delhi Tejas Rajdhani Express, the Sampoorna Kranti Express, South Bihar Express, and Mumbai bound Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express. The grand alliance of opposition parties in Bihar have expressed their support to the student-led Bihar bandh. Meanwhile, the railway ministry has formed a committee to examine the grievances of protesting aspirants. However, the ministry also issued a public notice on 25th January 2022 stating: “Railway job aspirants who have indulged in vandalism/unlawful activities may face lifetime debarment’ from government jobs.”
Covid-Bulletin: India Logs 2,51,209 New Covid-19 Cases; Recovery Rate At 93.60%
According to the latest data released by the union health ministry, India has registered 2,51,209 new covid-19 cases in the previous 24 hours. The active caseload of the country currently stands at 21,05,611. Meanwhile, daily recoveries continue to outnumber fresh covid-19 cases with recording 3,47,443 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The total recoveries in the nation have reached 3,80,24,771. The daily and weekly positivity rates currently stand at 15.88% and 17.47%, respectively. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research, the country has conducted 72.37 crore covid-19 tests so far. On the vaccination front, India has administered 164.44 crore covid-19 vaccine doses so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

India-Central Asia Summit: India Condemns Cross-Border Terrorism
On Thursday, prime minister Narendra Modi hosted the first-ever India-Central Asia summit virtually. In the summit, India condemned cross-border terrorism and underlined the importance of transparency along with respecting every country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. PM Modi emphasised that the Central Asian region is primary to India’s vision of an integrated and stable extended neighbourhood. The summit was attended by the presidents of all 5 countries, and both sides agreed to form separate joint working groups to address the Afghanistan situation and encourage connectivity via the Chabahar Port. In his opening remarks, PM Modi said: “We are all concerned about the developments in Afghanistan. In this context also, our mutual cooperation has become even more important for regional security and stability,”

Canadian Authorities Identifies Indian Family Found Dead Near US-Canada Border
The identity of the Indian family has been confirmed by the Canadian authorities, who were found frozen to death in a field near Emerson, Manitoba. The family members have been identified as Jagdishkumar Patel (39), Vaishaliben Patel (37), Vihangi Patel (11) and Dharmik Patel (3). The Patel family had migrated from Dingucha village in Gujarat. The Royal Canadian Mounted police said: “We can confirm that on January 12, 2022, the Patel family arrived in Toronto, Canada. From Toronto, the family made their way to Emerson on, or about, January 18, 2022,” “With what we know so far of their activities in Canada, along with the arrest that occurred in the United States, we believe this to be a case of human smuggling,” the police added. Currently, the authorities are looking for anyone who might have had an encounter with the family.
