18 States Including Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh Shows A Decline In New Covid-19 Cases

Trends show a dip in covid-19 cases in states including Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Gujarat; the health minister cautioned the states to maintain covid-appropriate behaviour in the states and emphasised on the importance of containment zones. Some districts have shown declined positivity rate despite increased testing for the virus. States like Kerela, West Bengal, Punjab and Goa continue to report an increase in daily cases, with 26 states still having a positivity rate of more than 15%.

Bharat Biotech’s Vaccine Covaxin Given Approval To Start Phase 2/3 Clinical Trials On 2 To 18 Year Old

According to sources, Covaxin, developed by Bharat Biotech, has been given approval by an expert panel to conduct phase 2/3 clinical trials on 2-18 year old. The trial is set to take place at various sites, including AIIMS Patna, AIIMS Delhi and Meditrina Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur. The expert panel has recommended for the trials subject to the condition that the firm will have to submit an interim safety of phase II clinical trial and DSMB recommendations before proceeding for phase III.

While Cases Decline In Cities, Covid-19 Cases Surges In Small Towns And Villages

Rural India is witnessing a rise in covid-19 cases, as cases grow faster in small towns and villages. Data shows how the novel coronavirus has now shifted to attacking the rural areas, with 65% of the total cases in Uttar Pradesh and 89% in Chhattishgarh being reported from the state’s rural areas. There are many districts where every second person being tested is covid positive, indicating the positivity rate shooting up to 50%. The underreporting of cases and lack of healthcare infrastructure in rural India makes the covid-19 stronger in small towns and villages.

Bihar And UP Engage In A Blame Game For Bodies Found In Ganga

Many videos of half-burned and decomposed corpses floating down the Ganga river has been going viral on social media. Neighbouring states Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are blaming each other for dumping bodies in the river. Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has condemned the act and termed it unfortunate. No official statement has been received about the number of bodies washed up on the banks of the river Ganga in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

India’s covid death count has reached an all-time high, with 4,205 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope Says That The State May Have Over 2,000 Cases Of Mucormycosis

Last week, Delhi reported cases of mucormycosis, a rare fungal infection in covid recovered patients. Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has said that an increase in covid-19 cases would mean an increase in mucormycosis cases. Tope has informed that the state government will use hospitals attached to medical colleges as treatment centres for black fungus infection cases. Nasal or sinus infection, headache, fever, and pain under the eyes are some of the symptoms of mucormycosis.
