Covid Bulletin: Daily Covid-19 Cases In India Continues To Show A Declining Trend

According to the data released by the union health ministry, the new covid-19 infections in the country reported in the last 24 hours is 1,86,364 people testing positive. This is the lowest that India has hit in the last 44 days. The cumulative caseload is now 2,75,55,457. The daily positivity rate is 9%, and the weekly positivity rate is 10.42%. The total recoveries continue to surpass the number of fresh infections, with 2,59,459 more people being discharged. However, the central government has asked all the states to extend covid-19 guidelines till 30th June and issued a directive to go for intensive and local containment measures with no mention of lockdown.

CBSE Boards Exams For 12th Class May Held For 30 Minutes; Date Of Exams To Be Announced On 1st June

Reportedly, after a high-level meeting on Sunday, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank is set to announce the date of the CBSE class 12th Board examination 2021 on 1st June. There are reports that the exams will be held for 30 minutes in which students will answer objective type questions. However, there is no official confirmation from the ministry yet. States including Delhi, Maharashtra and Goa had suggested not to hold the examinations, and others suggested keeping the exam for a minimal period of time. CBSE had suggested two options of either conducting the exam for main subjects or holding a 90-minute exam.

In a statement titled myths and facts on India’s vaccination process, the Indian government said that they have been trying all means to import vaccines approved by USFDA, EMA, UK’s MHRA and Japan’s PMDA. Pfizer has already said that it is ready to supply 5 crore doses to India in 2021 and that it will only deal with the government of India. Moderna is reportedly looking to launch a single dose in India by 2022 and is in talks with Cipla, among other firms. According to reports, the US company Johnson & Johnson might not supply its vaccine doses to other countries in the near future. However, the central government is exploring ways to secure the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Delhi Government To Provide Compensation up to INR 5 Lakh To Families Who Lost Patients Due To Oxygen Shortage 

Delhi government has decided to compensate the families who have lost covid-19 patients to death due to the oxygen shortage in the capital. The Arvind Kejriwal government has formed a committee comprising six doctors and asked them to prepare a framework for the compensation, and the maximum amount is INR 5 lakh. An official said: The committee would meet at least twice a week either physically or through VC at a fixed time. The committee will be empowered to seek any documents from the concerned hospitals, including records of oxygen supply, storage and stock position, “Apart from this, the Delhi government has also announced a compensation of INR 50,000 to the families who have lost their breadwinner to covid-19 and free education to kids who lost both their parents to covid. A sum of 25,000 every month will be provided to these kids until they turn 25 years old.

PNB scam accused Mehul Choksi’s repatriation from Dominica has been stayed by a Caribbean court. The order from the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court in the High Court of Justice Commonwealth of Dominica stated: “This order is to be served immediately on the defendants by email and fax and in person, and the head of the immigration at the Douglas Charles airport by email and fax,” The matter will be heard on Friday again. India is pressing the extradition of both Mehul Choksi and Nirav Modi (currently lodged in a UK jail), who are wanted by the CBI in the PNB scam. 

Punjab Sees A Rise In Black Fungus Cases; CM Orders To Ramp Up The Stock Of Alternate Drugs 

After Punjab reported 188 cases of mucormycosis, the Chief Minister of the state, Captain Amarinder Singh, has issued directives to ramp up the stock of alternate drugs to treat black fungus cases amid a shortage of Amphotericin. The state government, in an official release, said: “With only Liposomal Amphotericin B injections in the stock, and just 880 more Liposomal expected to be received today (Thursday), the CM stressed the need to strengthen alternate drug stocks as recommended by the Expert Group constituted by his government to deal with the crisis.” The expert group have been given the task to advise hospitals on the treatment protocols of mucormycosis cases. Punjab is under lockdown till 10th June.
