Cyclone Tauktae: High Rainfall Alert Issued In Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerela and Gujarat
The latest notification released by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) states that Tauktae has now become a severe cyclonic storm and likely to intensify in the next four hours. States like Kerela, Goa are witnessing heavy rainfall, high tidal waves and gale-force winds. Maharashtra has also stopped the ongoing vaccination drive in the state, given the warning of the cyclone. Gujarat is expected to get hit by Tauktae on Monday evening, rescue teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) have been deployed in the state.

Covid Bulletin: India Records A Dip In Daily Cases, Reports Less Than 3 Lakh Cases After Weeks
With 4,106 covid-deaths reported across the country, India sees a dip in fresh cases. In the last 24 hours, India’s new covid-19 cases stand at 2,81,386 and 3,78,741 recoveries. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, A cumulative total of 31,64,23,658 samples have been tested for covid-19 as of 17th May. The positivity rate is currently at 17.88%.
Two Bengal Chief Ministers Taken To The CBI Office In Kolkata, Likely To Get Arrested In The Narada Bribery Case
Bengal ministers Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee have been taken to the CBI office in Kolkata. The CBI is set to press a chargesheet against the ministers in the Narada Bribery case. Earlier, a CBI investigation had been sanctioned by the Bengal governor against Firhad Hakim, Subrata Mukherjee and former ministers Madan Mitra and Sovan Chatterjee. The Narada Bribery case was a sting operation done by the Narada News portal, in which the ministers can be seen accepting bribes.
Delhi Government: We Will Take All Necessary Steps To Check Cases Of Black Fungus Or Mucormycosis In The Capital
Delhi has been recording a rise in the number of black fungus cases among covid recovered patients. On Sunday, the Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, said that the state government would take all the necessary steps and precautions to check cases of mucormycosis or black fungus cases in the capital. The centre released an advisory on 9th may, citing that mucormycosis may turn fatal if not taken care of. The infection is commonly seen in patients who are taking steroids for covid-19 treatment and have comorbidities such as diabetes, heart failure, cancer or kidney problems.

Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank will hold a virtual meeting on 17th May with the states’ education secretaries to discuss the impact of the covid-19 pandemic on the education sector. The union minister will also take a review of online classes and check on the progress of the National Education Policy. The covid-19 pandemic has impacted the country’s education system with the cancellation of the class 10 board examination and postponing of the class 12 board examination.

There are various Buddhist monasteries at Bodh Gaya in Bihar, which is operated by over four dozen countries. Bihar is under strict lockdown till 25th May, and the total number of covid-19 cases in the state stands at 6.51 lakh.
