‘Ashwin Miscalculated’: Sunil Gavaskar Breaks down The Final Over Drama As KKR Beat DC In A Thriller To Reach IPL 2021 Finals
While bowling the final over for the Delhi capitals Ravichandran Ashwin was to defend 7 runs. At this point, Kolkata Knight Riders were 129/5 with Shakib Al Hasan and Rahul Tripathi in the middle. The match happened to slowly tell towards Delhi capital’s favor with three quick wickets in just 22 balls.
Ashwin did his job brilliantly he gave away a single in the first two balls and then picked two wickets in the next two deliveries. It then turned the match entirely in Delhi capital’s hands. Now KKR needed six runs in just two balls, with Tripathi on strike and only 3 wickets remaining.
On the fifth ball of the over Ashwin ended up with the flattish delivery outside off stump. Rahul Tripathi did not make a mistake and bounds on it to smoke it over the long-off for the maximum.
After the match, Sunil Gavaskar dissected Ashwin’s final over and explain where he made the mistake in the over. Gavaskar was quoted as “Ashwin is a very clever bowler. He knew exactly how to bowl to which batsman. He was reading the batsman’s mind. He knew that Sunil Narine was going to come up and just go hard at everything so he bold him just a little bit wider. He was caught by the fielder at long-on.”
But on the final ball he just miscalculated, Ashwin thought that Tripathi was going to run down but he did not. As he bowled a little bit flatters so it will not be in the mark but it did what he also anticipated and hit an excellent shot. It was truly an excellent way to finish the game.
However, KKR only has them to blame for this position they got themselves. As the match was going they should have won it comfortably with more than 10 balls to spare.
