IPL Update: KKR’s Mumbai Misery Continues

Kolkata Knight Riders have surrendered against Mumbai Indians once again and this time they have controlled the match till the 35th over. KKR have secured a single win against Mumbai Indians in last 13 encounters. The owner of Kolkata Knight Riders, Shah Rukh Khan is utterly disappointed with this defeat and he has apologized to the fans after the match.

The captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, Eoin Morgan has chosen to bowl first in a slowish track of Chennai considering the dew factor. Eoin Morgan has given five overs to the spinners at the up front. The strategy has worked quite well as the batsmen of Mumbai Indians have not been able to flourish in the power play. Mumbai Indians have started to make a comeback in the match with a brilliant innings of Surya Kumar Yadav. He has been playing his shots with ease and the bowlers have not been able to control the flow of his runs. After getting the half century, Surya has played a reckless shot against Shakib Al Hasan and he has gone back to the pavillion. Rohit Sharma has tried to stay at the crease in a difficult track. However, Pat Cummins has taken his wicket at a crucial juncture of the game. Andre Russell has come to bowl two overs at the death and he has taken five wickets in this phase of the game.

While coming to chase a score of 153, Kolkata Knight Riders have got a brilliant start in the power play. They have scored 45 runs in the first six overs without losing a single wicket and the credits should go to their openers Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill. The problems have begun to arise after the dismissal of Gill. Gill has tried to slog against Rahul Chahar and got caught in the deep. Rahul Tripathi has also failed to survive much time in the crease and Rahul Chahar’s leg spin has has started to create doubts over KKR’s batsmen at that point of time.

Nitish Rana has continued to play in his natural way and he has scored two consecutive half centuries in first two matches of the tournament. However, Kolkata Knight Riders have lost their way in the middle overs. Eoin Morgan, Nitish Rana and Shakib Al Hasan have thrown their wickets in quick succession. The pressure has come to Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik. Andre Russell has not been able to rotate the strike. His catch has been dropped twice by the fielders of Mumbai Indians. Krunal Pandya has bowled two crucial overs at the death. Jasprit Bumrah has not bowled well in his first three overs. However, he has bowled an excellent penultimate over of the match. Trent Boult has finished the job in style for Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai Indians have not batted well in the first two games of the season. Yet they have won one match and in the other match they have fought till the last ball of the innings. On the other hand, KKR’s team morale will be down after this defeat. They will now have a break of four days before their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. They will certainly try to start afresh from that game on Sunday.
