Many reports have suggested that the batsman is taking a break due to tiredness from the constant play and the bio-bubbles.

The stories suggest that the player is also nursing an injury and is trying to take a break to recover. He had an elbow injury that he had undergone surgery for. This was at the time when he was banned from cricket due to the Sandpaper incident. Further, it seems that the injury has once again resurfaced now.

This will force the player to miss the series against the West Indies and Bangladesh. This could also push him out of the T20 World Cup and the Ashes. The reliable batsman had struggled in the IPL this year to an extent. Further, he has looking to improve his fitness at that point.

National selector Trevor Hohns recently told ESPNcricinfo in a statement, “Unfortunately I can not tell you how long or how serious it is but it is something he has had before and definitely flared up again in the IPL. How long it will take to get it completely right I can not tell you at the moment, I have had no further advice on that, but the main thing is for Steven from our view is to make sure he is fit for the T20 World Cup and of course the Ashes.”
